Holiday Gift Guide 2024
Carter & Rose offers unique, beautiful gifts for everyone, from the signature wall snake to cozy, colorful blankets. My fave gifts: wall snakes (start at $22), or blanket ($110). GIFT CARDS
This mini newstand is tucked away next to Bollywood Theater and Tight Tacos, and offers a wide selection of hard to find magazines and journals. Grab a gift card or a copy of Kitchen Table Magazine, a Portland based food magazine and pair it with a gift certificate to Scotty’s Pizza!
From pens and washi tape, to craft kits and canvases, Collage has gifts for all the crafty people in your life. My pick: a new Leuchtturm dotted notebook ($29) and a fern embroidery kit ($32).
The perfect experience gift: Cooking classes! Cookshop has classes for kids and adults, with topics like sourdough, pasta, knife skills, french bistro classics and so much more! Prices start at $48 for family pasta, most adult classes $84.
Coral Story’s collection of natural, nourishing products is perfect for anyone who loves radiant, healthy skin—while also caring for the planet. Gift options include makeup, skincare and accesories.
Treat your loved ones to the richest, most indulgent frozen treat: custard! Flavors change frequently, but include classics like malted chocolate, madagasar vanilla, and butter pecan.
A neighborhood favorite since 2011, Division Wines is one of my favorite spots to enjoy a glass of wine on the patio, or settle in at the bar in chillier weather.
What kid doesn’t love frozen yogurt with all the fun toppings?! At this locally owned spot, toppings are a notch above the typically fro-yo chain, with locally sourced candy and baked toppings, indulgent dark chocolate, and candy free from artificial dyes and flavors.
Since 2014, Good Coffee has been my go-to for thoughtfully sourced beans and expertly roasted brews. Whether it’s a gift card for a latte or a subscription for monthly deliveries, any coffee lover will appreciate this pick.
Jacqueline is an oyster bar & restaurant in the Clinton neighborhood, and just moved to the corner of 25th Avenue. Oyster happy hour is always packed, but my favorite is to grab a seat at the bar and enjoy a cocktail and an appetizer later in the evening.
My go to pint at Little Beast in the winter is a dark ale called Folkvangr, but all of their beers are incredible. Their beer garden is in a an adorable, yellow craftsman house on SE Divsion.
My go-to local spot for delicious cocktails, small bites, pizza (on Mondays only), and the best caesar salad around. Cozy, small interior with patio seating, this is one of those pinch me spots that make me feel so lucky to live in Portland.
PiPH’s motto: “cards. gifts. girl power”, this stationary shop and letterpress on SE Clinton is full of color, humor and a whole lot of attitude. Top pick: a desk planner and a brightly colored mesh pencil bag by Mokuyobi.
Founded in 2011 by Sandro Paolini, Pinolo is my favorite place to go for an affogato while my kids get scoops. Flavors are always amazing, with many made from locally sourced fruits from amazing farms and orchards.
Owned by sister duo Carie and Sara, Potted and Portland has been selling and caring for plants in Portland since 2020. I’m far from a green thumb, but their expert advice has allowed me to purchase plants that not only survive, but thrive (in adorable pots, btw). Top pick: a ZZ plant in a pot by Sparnicht Pottery.
This welcoming clothing shop on SE Division is so beautifully curated, I sometimes forget it’s a consignement shop. Steering your loved ones away from fast fashion and towards a more sustainable purchase is easy with this boutique that also carries adorable (and new) socks and accessories.
With their "Made in the USA and Stuff That Holds Up" motto, this is the ideal place to shop for someone who appreciates quality craftsmanship and items that will last forever.
My top picks: the Wills Shirt or a Waxed Canvas Ditty Bag.
An offshoot of the Portland Art Museum, Tomorrow Theater “embraces cinematic storytelling in all its forms” which means there’s often a speaker, artist or activity paired with a film. Family friendly showings, called FAM JAM, are usually on weekend afternoons and priced at $5.
Wellspent is the neighborhood market any foodie dreams about! From Japanese snacks curated by Fulamingo, to locally farmed produce and cheeses, to craveworthy sandwiches and vermouth spritzes on tap, this shop is small but mighty. Top choice gift: a $100 gift card (officially called the Olive Oil CSA).
"Shop small, shop local" is a phrase you hear often in Portland, but it’s worth reflecting on what it really means. Supporting locally owned businesses helps neighbors, classmates, and entrepreneurs thrive, keeping money within our community and bolstering the independent spirit that makes Portland so special. Every gift, meal, or shirt you buy shapes the future of our city. I’ve compiled a list of some of my favorite local shops, cafes, and restaurants—many with links to purchase gift cards online—to make your holiday shopping a little easier. Thank you for supporting our vibrant community!
